Overview

For years, learning theory has pointed to the fact that adults learn differently from children. The approach to training adults must be specific to their needs. Successful facilitators can often help improve learning outcomes in adults by creating training environments that incorporate what brain researchers have found stimulates brain neurons in children and tapping into some of the early learning memories that participants possess. For example, much of the brain-based research done to this point shows that learning strategies that involve learner engagement, activities, fun, novelty, repetition, and environmental elements (e.g., sound, light, color, music, and vegetation) assist adult learners in maximizing learning outcomes. Since the goal of adult learning is to assist participants in their effort to gain, retain, recall, and use what they experience, it is logical to try to prepare a learning event that is conducive to learning and capitalizes on research.

In this session, internationally-known author and trainer of adults Bob Lucas, will share adult learning ideas, techniques, and strategies that he has used and perfected over more than four decades of training adults of all types of backgrounds. Many of the approaches that attendees will experience are drawn from the hundreds of creative training workshops and books on the topic that Bob has created throughout his career.

Attendees will learn

  • How to facilitate creative adult learning sessions that can help stimulate learning and memory in a more interesting and creative manner.
  • How to increase interaction with students.
  • How to create memorable techniques for adding excitement and sizzle to your sessions so that participants want to keep coming back and learning more.
