The 2020’s has been a ride. I consider myself versatile and I played by the COVID rules as much as I could. I’m a deeply one on one, face to face person. I want to hear every single bit of what we are going to learn together. That includes body and eye movements, small-ish facial changes and I am always trying to unpack the words we are sharing together. It’s fun for me. With COVID, at least half of my ways of meeting were not allowed and online conversations can’t equal the body changes, even online.
It also hurts my head when the rules aren’t the rules. Everyone should have a mask but they don’t, including me since a year ago or so. The YMCA is full of people working out, even early on. The children were supposed to be stronger than us, but now they are getting ill. Who’s in charge of this mess?? New confusion brings new rules, new anger, new helpfulness and we’re on another ride.
It’s helpful to learn about yourself and others who work with you. I like to use the Target Training International profiles. I’ve been checking out my profile every six months or so to see if it has changed. I’m pretty sure I have changed. But I really haven’t. With all the change swirling I’m usually back where I started.
So, where should we go now? What happens now? Should we fall into whatever is sitting there, should we completely change everything? Or should we pretend that everything is the same. I’m going for ‘let’s see’.

DOMINANCE – How we respond to challenges
INFLUENCE – How we respond to people and contact
STEADINESS – How we respond to pace and consistency
COMPLAINCE – How we respond to procedures and constraints
As I look at my results, I see that I personally have stayed pretty much the same. DISC allows you to look at NATURAL style (it’s really you) and ADAPTED style (you’re pretending). In this confusion, you may have let your NATURAL style go – in other words, you are doing your own thing. It’s interesting for me to talk to people who have been ‘living’ in the ADAPTED world. It’s perfectly logical, but not very good for your vision.
Here’s an example of NATURAL and ADAPTED behavior (DISC)
Your DISC results are who you really want to be, but you can choose to adapt. You picked it! Unless there is some trauma, you’re likely going to want to be in your happy DISC place. People who are afraid or lost tend to jump into being ‘someone else’. This is called ADAPTED style. The person is likely scared of the reality of something. You have met people like this – they have wonderful conversations with you but you can tell it’s a show. The sad part is they haven’t figured that out yet and they are anxious.
