Employee engagement is one of the hottest topics in organizations as companies strive to retain their top talent in a workplace landscape where job mobility and career changes are more accessible than ever. According to the 2014 Deloitte Global Human Capital Trends research, 78% of business leaders consider retention and engagement to be urgent or important issues. As a result, businesses all over the world are trying to build inclusive, passionate, and multi-generational teams.

Today, companies typically use engagement surveys as benchmarking tools to help assess an employee’s level of engagement. While there may be some value in this, it is important to realize that these annual surveys must be supported with real efforts to address the cultural expectations of today’s workforce.

How to Drive Employee Commitment

Creating a high-performance work environment is a complex problem. Companies need to consider all of the work-related issues that drive employee commitment:

  • Performance Management and Rewards: The processes for managing employee performance and the systems for rewarding employees must be clear and effective.

  • Career Management Transparency: Providing transparency around career progression helps employees understand how they can manage and advance their careers within the organization.

  • Talent Development: Organizations should focus on developing their talent and ensuring that high performers have opportunities for advancement.

  • Inclusive Culture: Cultivating an inclusive culture is essential for attracting and retaining a diverse workforce.

  • Vision Communication: Communicating a compelling vision that resonates with employees is crucial for engagement.

  • Change Management: Effectively managing transitions and re-engaging employees during change events is vital for maintaining engagement.

  • Caring and Fun Work Environment: Building organizations that are caring, meaningful, and enjoyable can significantly enhance employee satisfaction and commitment.

In our engagement webinar, we will not only look at how to use surveys to benchmark and drive employee engagement, we will also look at the expectations that employees have about what it means to work in an engaging culture, a kind of workplace that engenders meaning, fulfillment and loyalty.
